Soccer Sidelines are so romantic

It all started in 2016

I was having a very bad day during a very stressful transition time in my life. I had just moved to Charlotte to start a new job, but I didn't have a house yet so I was renting a spare bedroom and my dogs were living with my parents until I could get a place of my own. I signed up as a free agent to play soccer and got put on a house team. This team was terrible and had some interesting team dynamics, we got destroyed in every game. One day Mike's team played before us and stuck around taking up what should have been our team's bench until after half time. They all left but Mike was still sitting there and I had had it with the annoyances so I just turned and yelled at him, "Are you just staying to watch our team lose?!?!" He answered "I didn't have anything better to do." And I felt like the rude human I had been, like I had kicked a sweet puppy. He then commented on the shirt I was wearing as it said "Talk Nerdy to Me" on the front and had a list of nerdy jokes on the back. He said some of the jokes were incorrect, which I knew but sparked my curiousity that he would notice too so it lead me to ask him which ones were wrong and how he knew. He said he was working on his master's in physics. I got called to sub on to the field and by the time I got back to the sideline he was gone. I felt bad about the rude way I had yelled at him and also dissapointed that I didn't even get his name. I did have a very telling piece of information though, there was only one college in the area that seemed big enough to have a master's program in physics. Sure enough a quick 3o second google search yielded the UNCC Graduate Program site and a list of their current graduate students. A short Facebook search later and I had found him...Two years later we went on a second date, and a year after that we bought a house together ( and shortly after that a Berner puppy), and the rest is history.
