Like so many relationships these days, we met online through Bumble. Mike was looking for a girl with a dog, but he swiped yes on Alana anyway! We met at Philz coffee a couple of weeks later - like the Bay Area millenials we are. Mike said even on the first date he knew he just wanted to spend more time with Alana, even trying to extend it to dinner. However, by the 3rd date where Alana agreed to go ice skating, Alana's family knew this was special, since Alana cannot ice skate to save her life.
About a year and a half later, Mike and Alana were so excited to go on their first big vacation together. They had taken trips to visit family together and small trips through California, but this time they were going to Fiji to just relax and enjoy extended time together. People asked Alana ahead of it if she thought a proposal was coming. She was steadfast in her reply that she did not think it would happen on this trip - there had been no indicators! However, about 5 days into their trip, Mike asked Alana to take a walk to watch the sunset, which confused Alana since they had plans to go to the SUNSET bar. Nevertheless, Alana followed Mike to a breathtaking lookout point where Mike got down on one knee and asked Alana to marry him.... to which she replied "This is so weird!" The shock was big and real guys. After the initial shock wore off though, she said YES!
