Travel & Accommodation

The Wedding Website of Julia Ritz Toffoli and Michael Irenski
Ciao! As you may have guessed, our wedding is going to be in Italy! Specifically, in a town called Bomarzo, about a 90-minute drive from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and just over an hour from Rome's city center. We highly recommend renting a car, as local transportation options are limited. There is no main hotel in Bomarzo, but we are holding rooms in several local Bed & Breakfasts, and along with other AirBnBs and local rentals, there will be plenty of room for everyone! For those who prefer a hotel, there are options in Viterbo, a town 20 minutes away. Below you will find helpful tips and recommendations for your travel and accommodation. But please don't hesitate to get in touch with us directly if you have any specific questions or concerns. Map of the Area

Please find here a google map with some of the main wedding locations marked, in addition to some other useful locations such as parking lots, supermarkets, restaurants, as well as the airport and nearby train stations.

Flight

Getting to Italy & Bomarzo

The closest airport is Roma Fiumicino (FCO) Aeroporto Leonardo DaVinci, which is a 90-minute drive from Bomarzo. From the airport, you can either rent a car directly or take the train into Rome City Center. The fastest way to Rome city center is the Leonardo Express, which is a bit pricier than the normal train but quite fast (~30 min to downtown). If you are planning to take the train to Bomarzo, there are a few options, best booked on trenitalia.it (the official train website). There is a direct but slow regional train that goes from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) to Orte, a town ~15 min from Bomarzo, which is a local transportation hub off the main highway so many trains go here; this option takes a bit over 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take an express train into Rome and then transfer (either at Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina) to another regional train to Orte. With a transfer, you can catch faster trains and the whole trip is about 1.5 hours. There are also trains to Viterbo and Attigliano, via a transfer in Rome, but they are slower than the ride to Orte, so Orte is a better choice. In both Orte and Viterbo there are private taxis that you can book to take you to Bomarzo (see below). Or coordinate with another guest to get a ride. Either way, we recommend that each party or household (if you are renting an AirBnB with others) should have at least one rental car to get around, as local transport options are limited. Taxi in Viterbo: taxiviterbo.it +39 0761 1876 (this is a service) Taxi in Orte: Federico: +39 339 627 4999 (this is an individual that Emmanuela recommended) You can also fly into Florence, which is about a 2-hour drive from Bomarzo. If you plan to do this, we recommend renting a car, as train travel from Florence to Bomarzo is not convenient.

Rental Car

Renting a Car in Italy

Bomarzo is not very accessible via train, so we recommend renting a car as local transport options are limited. The Rome airport has a number of rental car agencies in the terminal. Europcar often has the most competitive rates. Europe favors stick shift cars, so automatic cars are less available and much more expensive (up to 3 times as much sometimes!). Book early for the best rates, and if someone in your party can drive manual, that will be preferable! And if you have a child, remember to ask about car seats. "View" below links to a rental company search site, and here are some helpful rental tips: https://annaeverywhere.com/renting-a-car-in-italy/#02 (copy link and paste into browser) The main driver in your party should (in theory) get an International Driver's Permit from a local AAA branch (it's $20 + photos, you don't have to be a member; they can take the required photos at the branch). It's technically required when driving in Italy and France with a US driver's license, and you never know if they'll ask for it when you get the rental (or if you get pulled over). (FWIW, no one I know has ever been asked for it, but better safe than sorry if you have time! If you don't have time, don't panic. You'll be fine :) } More info available here: https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html

House Or Rental

If You Would Like to Stay Inside Bomarzo

Bomarzo, Italia

If you would like to stay IN Bomarzo, please fill out this form to let us know about your accommodation needs: https://forms.gle/R9KJHqJJrSTBEUf17 Our wonderful wedding planner Emmanuela Tardani is in touch with many of the rental property owners in Bomarzo proper and is holding several of the B&Bs in town as a sort of town-wide "hotel block" for our guests, both in the historic center, as well as slightly further out in the "new" town. For now, we are holding Le Querce, Il Poggio Degli Ulivi, and Il Grifo, but are happy to make arrangements with other rental owners if you need help. If you prefer to book on your own, that is fine, but please let us know where you end up booking so that we can keep track of which local rentals are no longer available. This will ensure that we can keep track of rentals for everyone who would like to stay in town, and that guests who require accessible accommodations are able to have them. Bomarzo is a medieval town with narrow streets and lots of stairs that do not easily accommodate cars, strollers, etc., so we want to make sure that those who need bigger or more suitable accommodations are able to book them. If you prefer to stay outside of Bomarzo or in nearby Viterbo, feel free to book your own accommodations, but we are also available to help with that as well! Grazie! If You Plan to Book Your Own Place Outside of Bomarzo

Bomarzo, Italia

For guests who would like a bit more space or prefer to stay in a more convenient and car-accessible location, there are several options available a bit outside of Bomarzo in the neighboring countryside and other towns. If you are renting a car and open to staying a further away, there are plenty of bigger and more convenient rental villas in the surrounding areas available on AirBnB, Booking.com and VRBO.com (vacation rental by owner), and there are several hotel options in Viterbo (the nearest "big" town, a 20-minute drive away).  Emmanuela can also assist with your search if you need.

COVID-19

While Covid guidance is still evolving quickly, we will try to keep this space up to date with regard to what is required to enter and leave Italy. As of now, covid tests are not required to enter/leave Italy or the US. TO ENTER ITALY: "Now that the COVID-19 entry rules have been officially dropped, all travellers, regardless if they are reaching Italy from an EU or non-EU country, will no longer be required to present a vaccination, recovery, or test certificate upon their arrival." https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/italy-has-officially-dropped-its-covid-19-entry-rules-for-all-travellers/ TO ENTER THE US: The US is dropping all covid testing requirements as of Sunday, June 12. If this changes, we will update this space. The VIEW link below is to an interactive Delta Discover Map to find out what's open for travel and get details on any potential entry requirements. While is it for Delta, it references local and national guidelines and so the information should be valid no matter what airline you are flying.
