Travel & Accommodations

There are many ways to get to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica! Please book travel and accommodations as soon as possible. December is the beginning of the busy travel season in Costa Rica and options become limited the longer you wait. Check out the travel and accommodation options below and let us know if you have any questions.

Flight

Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO)

SJO is the main international airport located in San Jose, CR. Be sure you book a flight to Costa Rica and not San Jose, California. You can fly into SJO then fly, drive, or take a shuttle to Manuel Antonio. The most direct route is to fly into SJO and then take a short (20 min) commuter flight to Quepos. From Quepos, take a short (10 min) taxi ride to Manuel Antonio.

Flight

Sansa Airlines

From SJO take a quick 20 minute commuter flight to Quepos via Sansa Airlines. Manuel Antonio is a short taxi ride from the Quepos airport.

Flight

Aeropuerto Internacional Daniel Oduber Quirós (LIR)

LIR is the second major international airport in Costa Rica. There are no flights from LIR to Quepos, therefore if you fly into this airport you will need to rent a car and drive to Manuel Antonio. We have done this drive before, it is beautiful albeit longer.

Rental Car

Various Rental Car Companies

If you do not fly into Quepos, then you can rent a car and drive to Manuel Antonio. The drive from SJO is approximately 3 hours. The drive from LIR is approximately 4.5 hours. A car with four wheel drive is typically recommended for Costa Rica, however the main routes from both airports are paved and should not require four wheel drive. If you plan to explore other areas of Costa Rica or avoid the main roads, then rent a vehicle with four wheel drive to be safe. TIP: If you are planning to rent a car, we recommend researching rental car insurance, possibly through your credit card company (it can be expensive otherwise).

Travel Note

Various Shuttles

Many hotels offer their own shuttle service from the airports. Other private companies offer this service as well if you don't want to fly or rent a car. Send us your flight details if you would like us to coordinate a shuttle with other guests for you.
