Katie and Mike first met in the summer of 2012 on the set of a film a mutual friend of theirs was making. They didn't get to know each other very well back then, as they didn't have any scenes together during filming. Three years later, Katie packed her bags to move to Chicago. Upon hearing the news of her recent move, Mike reached out to Katie to see if she'd like to grab a drink. She told him that she'd love to grab drinks! Under one condition, of course. The bar they decide to meet at must allow dogs. So, the three of them (Mike, Thea (their dog), and Katie) met for drinks at a bar called Lincoln Station a few days later. That night, they finally got to know each other. The two of them hit it off so well that they closed down the patio of the bar. When Katie started to begin her goodbyes, Mike asked her if she'd want to join him at another bar to meet up with some of his friends. It was his birthday, after all, so how could she pass on a continued good time? Mike, Katie, and Thea made their way down to the next dog-friendly bar to meet up with Mike's friends. And, alas, the rest is history.
Mike tried to make it a surprise, as every groom does, and he did so successfully - by hiding the ring in his sock drawer. So on an ordinary Saturday morning, Mike's plan was a brewin'. He had the ring on him and he devised a proposal plan that morning. No, seriously, he decided to propose that morning. Anyway, a morning of laughter was involved, but there were also a few drinks had the evening before, so Katie told Mike she was going to take a quick nap before they had to get ready for the evening, as they had dinner plans with some family friends. She asked Mike if he could wake her up at 3pm. So Mike anxiously paced the apartment thinking of exactly what to say to make this the perfect moment while Katie snoozed in the next room. He decided just to go for it. She was sleeping with her back towards him and he tapped her on the shoulder to wake up. After the third or fourth nudge, she begrudgingly turned over, wondering what he could possibly want. And that's when he popped the question. After many tears of overwhelming joy, Katie began to ask her many questions as she usually does. "But where did you hide the ring?" "It was in my sock drawer." "That's risky! What if I decided to do your laundry?!" "Awh, well that's sweet. But I knew you wouldn't!" And thus ensued a night of laughter and romance - much like what they hope the rest of their lives will hold. It was super sweet, super simple, and super unexpected. It's exactly how Katie wanted it to go down. Now, come celebrate with them as they tie the knot this coming October!
