Mikayla's POV: It all started with a wine night at the home of Brian and Liz Thomsen. Liz: “Mikayla, you should coach for Brian sometime, why not?” Followed by a quick look and head nod from Brian. Yeah, sure, sounds fun! Little did they know. Flash forward to somewhere on a soccer field in central NJ... I see Lucas for the first time, he’s setting up cones for my first practice with him. He’s cute, he’s funny, he’s all business. He has crazy blue eyes. And a beard. And tattoos. Yes, yes I’m Brian’s cousin, I hope that doesn’t automatically make me off limits.. What follows is an easy love story. One that started as a friendship filled with belly laughs and late night flirtations. It was a slow burn that ignited with such authenticity. A love and connection undeniable to all. Lucas's POV: "Great, I have to coach with the boss's cousin." Lucas thought to himself as he drove an hour to a new training. He was excited to meet someone new but certainly thought that Brian was trying to keep a close eye on him. As he waited at the field for his assistant to arrive, he noticed a small red car pull up. "That's gotta be her". What happened next caught me completely off guard. It was peak Covid, so masks were mandatory, even out on the field. But as she walked toward me, something shifted. She didn’t just walk... she floated. Light on her feet, carefree, radiating that kind of energy that makes you forget the world’s a mess. She was clearly here for soccer, which meant we had at least one thing in common. But it wasn’t just that. She moved like an athlete—strong, confident, effortless. And then I saw the tattoos, ok I might be in trouble here. Then, as she got closer and we made eye contact it hit me. Oh ya, I'm in trouble. In that split second, I knew I was either going to marry this girl… or get fired in a few months. Sorry, Brian. I’m risking it. And so began my incredibly slow seduction of the woman I am marrying.
