There's one thing we can agree on- we met in the spring of 2016 working at a recreation center. Mikayla was in charge of supervising the spring break camp, and Tatiana was recently hired at the recreation center. According to Mikayla, Tatiana stormed over to her and without introducing herself, demanded to know what age group she would be working with. Tatiana claims that she certainly did introduce herself and that Mikayla proceeded to give her the wrong information and Tatiana had to correct her. We'll let you all decide which story is more believable ;) The point being, we both gave each other a horrible first impression but something told us we needed to look past that. The "disheveled and awkward camp counselor " Mikayla was determined to make Tatiana laugh that week. The "impatient and blunt" Tatiana let her guard down and made a friend. It sounds corny, but that week we met changed our lives. After meeting we went on to achieve a lot together. We both completed our associate's degrees at Skyline College before transferring to CSU Monterey Bay. This was a miracle considering Mikayla and Tatiana routinely skipped class at Skyline to linger in the school's coffee shop to "run into" each other. About 500 Starbucks cups later, Mikayla and Tatiana fell in love and Tatiana officially asked Mikayla to be her girlfriend on June 29th, 2019 at the SF Pride parade. One dorm, one apartment, and one pandemic later, we graduated CSUMB as college sweethearts. A week before our four-year anniversary, Mikayla took Tatiana back to Pier 7, the place where they took their graduation photos, to pop the question. We were stuck in traffic, and so late to our own proposal that Mikayla jumped out of the Uber to hail a "pedicab" to take us the rest of the way-both startling and confusing Tatiana and the Uber driver. Their faces were priceless. When we finally arrived, Tatiana was so distracted by a fisherman who caught a stingray that she didn't even see her own proposal set up at the end of the pier. After tearing her eyes away from the sting ray and one "ugly Kim Kardashian cry" later, Tatiana said yes! Just like our first encounter, nothing really went as planned! We are so excited to be getting married exactly one year from that date and on our five-year anniversary. Thank you all for being a part of our journey and for your unconditional love and support. Love Mikayla & Tatiana (& the stingray)
