How we Met

2018

In the fall of 2018, Mika having lived in the sorority house her junior year was looking for a new place to live while she finished her undergraduate degree at The University of Tennessee. Having found a townhouse community near campus Mika made the move and settled into the same routine most college seniors fall a custom to (Eat, Study, Sleep, Repeat...). Cameron's passion for the outdoors lead him into management at the local outdoor retailer and when he was not working he was out in the woods camping, fishing, or kayaking. Coincidently Mika's move made her the new neighbor across the breezeway from Cameron and little did she know that he was the neighborhood War Boss and unelected HOA president. Mika and her roommates were notorious ruler breakers, as are most college students taking a victory lap and celebrating college graduation. Having been a long time resident of the complex Cameron felt as though it was his duty to uphold the justice and peace of the neighborhood from time to time when the unruly college kids would park in his reserved spot or leave their empty beer cans in the water bottle holder of his mountain bike after a long night out. As Cameron's written warnings seemed to be ignored, he decided it was time for a come to Jesus meeting with the ladies next door. Having every intention of reading them the Riot act, Cameron knocked on Mika's door to formally introduce himself and reprimand her and her roommates of the repetitive unofficial violations they had committed, but when Mika answered the door her southern charm, outgoing personality, and angry Chihuahua Jeff quickly made Cameron forget why he was knocking on her door in the first place. As time went by, Cameron and Mika would continue to see each other as friends, eventually roommates, and now life partners.

The Engagement

October 1, 2021

When we started dating our first spontaneous road trip was to visit our Nations capital. While in Washington D.C. we caught Uncle Sam strolling down Constitution Avenue in the 4th of July parade, we watched patriotic fireworks over the Lincoln Memorial, and Cameron even got to eat some cracker jacks and watch his favorite baseball team beat the home team. Fast forward a few years and one pandemic later we still make the yearly pilgrimage to Washington D.C. to get a little taste of the city life. In September 2021, Cameron's Grandfather called and invited us to join him and his Uncle for the last series of the regular season for the Boston Red Sox in D.C vs the Washington Nationals. Mika immediately accepted the invitation, to her the thought of all you can eat nachos, hot dogs, and bbq was just too good of an offer to refuse... So the first weekend of October 2021 we boarded the dogs and the packed the car for another road trip up Interstate 81. The first night of ball was everything Mika dreamed it would be .... fondue fountains flowing with melty cheese, 100% all beef ballpark frank hotdogs, and unlimited refills. For six Innings Mika ate and drank to her hearts content and finally after she was cut off and all the food was packed away Cameron asked Mika to recreate the picture taken the first time we visited the Nationals ballpark. At the start of the seventh inning stretch Cameron Surprised Mika by getting down on one knee and asked her to be his Bride. The sell out crowd began cheering and clapping and for one brief moment we were more popular than the Boston Red Sox.
