How We Met

July 27, 2021

Nicole and I matched on the “dating app” Hinge on July 27, 2021. For some reason, we both liked each other’s profiles and we matched, despite the distance. Nicole and I lived two hours away from each other. She lived with her sister in Johns Island, SC, and me in Columbia, SC while I was stationed in Fort Jackson at the time. Then, we started chatting, messaging online, and Facetime and eventually decided to meet up. Fast forward to when first met, our first date. At first, I was skeptical, I know right? Lol thinking that she might just be pranking me or something. Like, “This girl wants to meet me?!” and I don’t know if this was good idea or not, because it’s a two-hour drive from Columbia to Charleston but I pulled the trigger anyway. So, here I am alone and afraid that she might kidnap me or worse rob me. “I’m here”. Sending her a message as I was pulling up to the parking lot of a store called Island Provisions near her house. “On my way”, she said. I was a little nervous, my stomach was upside down, I had to poop, I just had to! So I went in and did my thing quickly and just in time I came out as she was pulling in. Wow! She’s pretty! I saw her get out of her car with her cute outfit. She was smiling and I was happy that she came to see me. We both said hi and had a few little hugs, then we were off to our first date. Now, two years later and I still go “Wow! She’s pretty!” (Written by Miguel)

The Proposal

May 26, 2023

We were on vacation with Lady in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It was our first night there, and we had just returned to the hotel after dinner. Miguel was anxious about something and couldn't sit still. I thought something was wrong. He said all was fine, and I continued getting ready for bed. I came out of the bathroom in my PJs, and he asked me to sit down because he needed to talk to me about something. I was nervous that something had happened to a family member or back on base, and we had to go home. He wasn't showing any real facial expressions. He looked at me and told me that he loved me and couldn't imagine his life without me. That I came into his life at the right moment. He started to fumble his words a bit as he pulled the ring out of his pocket, I knew what he was trying to express. I could see the tiny tears in his eyes. I knew the answer I needed to say, but I was crying too much to get it out. Finally, I said, "Yes," all I could see was Miguel's smile, and then he relaxed like a weight had been lifted. I knew he was the one for me halfway through our first year together. I could actually see our future together. There was no hesitation between us when we decided to take our relationship to the next step when we moved in together. And there is no hesitation now as we plan to say yes to our forever together. We are excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Philly! (Written by Nicole)
