In 2015, our story began somewhere you wouldn’t expect a love story to start — inside a Skechers store. He was my supervisor. I was a floor lead. And at the time, romance was the last thing on my mind. We were both in relationships, and to be completely honest, I wasn’t even planning on being his friend. In fact, one of the first things I ever told him was that I didn’t like Colombians because of a bad past experience that had left me guarded and scared. Looking back now, it’s funny how life works — because the very person I was trying to keep at a distance would slowly become the safest place in my world. Our early conversations were strictly work, but somewhere between shifts, small talks, and shared laughs, something began to change. After we both went our separate ways from our previous relationships, we started spending time together outside of work. Around that time, I asked him if he had ever seen *The Crow*. He hadn’t — so we watched it together. It was one of those simple moments that quietly became part of our story forever. Not long after, we had our first “unofficial” date at Max Brenner’s Chocolate Bar. That night felt easy, natural, and different. On December 25, 2015, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. From there, he began opening my eyes to so many new places, experiences, and foods beyond the Peruvian dishes I had always known and loved. He didn’t just expand my palate — he expanded my world. What started as two coworkers who weren’t even supposed to be friends became a love neither of us saw coming, but both of us are endlessly grateful for. And all these years later, we both just know — without a doubt — that we were always meant to be together. Sometimes, the best stories begin in the most unexpected places… even in the shoe aisle.
