Our Story

First comes school, then comes marriage.

Mackenzie and Miguel met in their very first class in nursing school, Anatomy & Physiology. They sat right next to each other, not talking much but slowly becoming friends. That friendship continued over the next several years of schooling, with several classes together and lots of Mackenzie watching YouTube videos over Miguel’s shoulder during class when he would sit in front of her. They will never forget going to get Friday the 13th tattoos together in March 2020, the first time hanging out outside of school, and saying “See you in class!”, only for the world to shut down the next day (thanks COVID). Luckily, they got put together for a group project their last semester of school. After the project was all said and done, Miguel finally decided to shoot his shot and asked Mackenzie to go to a drive-in movie. Then, for the next month, they continued hanging out, not knowing if they were dating or just friends, both too scared to actually ask the other. Miguel finally posted a photo of them together a month later and a friend from school commented “pls tell me u guys are dating… #loveinscrubs”. Mackenzie saw this as an opportunity and decided to take a chance. She reached out to her sister, Brittany, and came up with a plan – Brittany would also comments on the picture a few times (“I think we are all waiting on an answer”, “I’m aging quickly while waiting for answers”). From there, Mackenzie took a chance and messaged Miguel saying “Sorry for my sister's comments, she keeps asking me about you and I honestly don’t know what to tell her lol” (Good plan, right? Just put the blame and questions on someone else). Miguel responded and said it was all good, and then finally answered with exactly what Mackenzie was waiting to hear – “For the record, I’m okay with telling people we’re dating if you are.” And from there, the rest is history. They have gone on so many adventures together and have lived such an amazing life over the past 5 years. They are so excited to see what the future holds and can’t wait for you to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with them.

The Engagement

"Dude, I've been mooching off you for years." -Dewey Finn

A little backstory... During their final semester of nursing school, Mackenzie and Miguel were part of a group project together. Now, there were other people besides them in the group, but Mackenzie definitely put a lot of time and effort into this project on her own. Once the project was all said and done, Miguel decided it was time to shoot his shot and sent Mackenzie a message on Instagram: "Wanna go to a drive in to watch School of Rock? Just a little break. I'll buy the tickets. A thank you for finishing the paper." Fast forward a little over 4 years later... After working a Sunday shift, Mackenzie came home, opened the garage, and was met with Miguel's car parked sideways, trunk open, and a projector playing an old time movie theater ad with dancing popcorn buckets on a big screen. Miguel was standing there, waiting to welcome her home and led her inside where he had set up a concession stand with popcorn, sodas, candy, and hot dogs. They got their snacks and then got cozy in the back of the car, and Miguel turned on School of Rock. Mackenzie truly had no idea what was going on until Miguel stood up, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. The answer was easy: yes. (Now everyone give Miguel props for all of the effort and love he put into this plan. A complete surprise, with every detail perfectly orchestrated. Go Miguel.)
