Last year, Mie reached out to a Baylor friend to discuss the ups and downs of dating. Through the giggles, the wonderful friend informed Mie that she knew of an amazing man who could be a perfect fit for Mie. She asked if Mie would be interested in being set up, and Mie agreed. The wonderful friend then spoke to the amazing man, who happens to be Jeremiah. Intrigued by the wonderful friend's stories of Mie, Jeremiah reached out to her. The two began chatting, meeting, dating, and falling in love. Sometimes Jeremiah commuted to where Mie lived in Fort Worth, sometimes Mie commuted to visit Jeremiah in Houston, and sometimes they met in the middle. As they learned more about each other, they saw the ways in which God was knitting them together to become one. Both come from families who passionately help others know the love of Jesus, and both have followed in their family's footsteps. Through weekly shared devotions, God has been helping them grow more in love with Him, with each other, and with the people around them. After several months of dating, prayer, and seeking wise counsel, Jeremiah bravely popped the question on a quiet Houston night, and with wind rustling through the trees, Mie said yes!
Mie Elizabeth Millard was born and raised in Houston, Texas. As her family attended Nassau Bay Baptist Church, she learned about Jesus and trusted Him as her Savior and Lord. She is thankful for the friends she made at church, for her extended church family, and for the opportunities to learn and grow that she gained there. Yearly, she also enjoyed embarking on the adventure of traveling to see her family in Japan. Her grandmother started a Christian school in Japan that her uncle now runs, and throughout the years she has served at the school, encouraging people and helping them know Jesus. Mie attended Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has served with Cru helping people know the stories of God in their own languages, and has served refugees in Fort Worth with Southcliff Church and World Relief. She loves singing, laughing, and brightening people's days. Working with children and helping people feel welcomed is something she considers to be fulfilling. Jeremiah Luuya Hope Situka was born in Tennesee and traveled around America as a pastor's kid until his family eventually ended up in Houston, Texas. Jeremiah also spent much of his childhood abroad as he joined his parents in trips back to their homeland of Uganda. Decades ago, Jeremiah's parents started a ministry in Uganda that initially focused on sharing the good news of Jesus, and has now expanded to include a hospice and an education ministry. Jeremiah learned to follow Jesus first from his parents, and then from countless mentors and friends throughout the years. Jeremiah attended the University of Houston and Fuller Theological Seminary. He has worked as a computer engineer, recruiter, and in campus ministry. Currently, he serves as a middle school math teacher and doing ministry in the US and Uganda. Jeremiah thrives on helping people know God's truth and how to apply it in their lives. His love for truth coupled with compassion for those in need make him a caring, strong leader.
