When Michelle was a sophomore at the University of Iowa, and John was a junior, Michelle saw him from across the room at Iowa Hillel and had a special feeling that this person would be important to her. He ignored her existence for the following year and a half. Eventually, she got the nerves to ask him to her sorority's dance. He said no. She told him that the deadline was the next day and he reluctantly agreed. The rest was history <3 We have been together for the past 6 years, and have been through many of the life's tumultuous events with each other by our side. John has been supportive of her pursuing medical school. Michelle has been supportive of John building his career in coaching, health, and fitness. Together, we can tell you how unhealthy you are!

Michelle and John had been discussing the goal of engagement for a couple months after moving in together in Scottsdale, AZ. However, Michelle's schedule for her 4th year of medical school precluded her from being in Arizona for any prolonged period of time. Michelle was getting ready to leave for New Orleans for a month to attend an away rotation on 11/19/22. She was sad to be leaving so shortly after returning from her last away rotation, but LUCKILY, one of her friends suggested going out for a casual dinner and drink (along with our significant others) nearby and the day before she would leave. They all walked from Michelle and John's apartment since the establishment was close, and Megan decided she NEEDED photos in front of a beautiful fountain along the Canal. Michelle asked John for a photo to prove that they left the house and had friends. He proceeded to get down on one knee with a ring and Michelle immediately felt shocked, bamboozled, and ecstatic. Within the same breath, she exclaimed, "YES! and MEGAN YOU LIED TO ME!" Fun facts: - Megan tried to get Michelle to get her nails done the week of the engagement. Michelle said no multiple times. She decided her CVS press-on nails were sufficient for public wear. - Michelle wanted to wear leggings and a sweatshirt to the establishment. Megan forced her to change beforehand. Michelle settled on a Canadian Tuxedo (denim-on-denim) outfit. - The ring was delivered to John and Michelle's apartment. John wasn't home to sign for the package and had to have Michelle sign for it. He told her that it was "the warranty information and a complimentary necklace for purchasing the ring." Michelle believed him and thought nothing of it.
