Thanh and Michelle met in Lawrence, KS in the spring of 2016. Michelle was going on a school trip and the bus departed from Lawrence. She rode up with several people who were mutual friends with Thanh. The two met and instantly became friends. Thanh and Michelle continued talking and months later, when Thanh came to Wichita to visit his family, he asked Michelle on a date. Michelle told Thanh that it was strictly a friend date, but days turned into months and Michelle slowly fell for his sweet and goofy personality. They made it official on August 11, 2016 when Thanh asked Michelle to be his girlfriend with a Pokeball. Thanh and Michelle's relationship has not always been easy being long distance for a majority of the years they have been together. The first 3 years Thanh was in Lawrence, KS and Michelle in Wichita, KS for undergrad. Then Thanh moved to Alabama for pharmacy school and Michelle moved to Kansas City for dental school. This was the ultimate challenge being over 12 hours apart and only seeing each other 2-3 times a year for 4 years. Nonetheless, they persevered through countless hours of FaceTime, Skype, and constant communication. They finally both moved back to Wichita, KS last year in 2023 and are living in the same city for the first time in their 8 years together!

Thanh and Michelle have always been talking about getting married once they both were finished with school. Michelle finally graduated and moved back to Wichita, KS. Thanh knew that it was time to spring into action. He worked with his family and friends to concoct a cheesy proposal at Botanical gardens that included an acapella group which swooned Michelle into saying YES!
