Plymouth is rich in history with settlement in 1825, incorporated in 1867, and became a city on May 20, 1932. Downtown Plymouth (DTP) has been the social gathering for the City of Plymouth and local neighborhoods for more than 150 years. Our first date, in 2020, and our engagement photos, took place at Ironwood Grill in DTP. Ironwood can be seen in the bottom right corner in the above historical photo. One block away is the Meeting House which was built in 1925, originally the Tonquish Lodge #32 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, with a bowling alley, and then later served as the meeting house for the Mayflower Hotel. The Meeting House Grand Ballroom is an elegant choice for weddings and located just steps from Ironwood and Kellogg Park. Therefore, we couldn't have selected a better place to host our reception than the Meeting House Grand Ballroom. Please click the link below for things to do in DTP, and, if you have time, stop at Ironwood to become part of our love story!
The Detroit Masonic Temple is the world's largest building of its kind. George Mason & Co. designed a multi-function complex. Ground was broken on Thanksgiving 1920, cornerstone was laid in Sept 1922, completed in 1926 on G. Washington's birthday, and a dedication on Thanksgiving 1926. Mason's neo-gothic architecture design (1,037 rooms) included three theaters, Shrine building, Chapel, eight lodge rooms, 17,500 sq. ft. drill hall, two ballrooms, office space, cafeteria, dining rooms, barber shop, pool, and 16 bowling lanes making it a must-see visitor's attraction. We selected Masonic Temple to host our nuptials as it holds a special place in our hearts. Masonic is located in the heart of Detroit where Steven serves, for the past 22 years, the Detroit Police Department. Michelle skated for the Detroit Roller Derby Girls at the Masonic and her charity is a short walk away. Steven and Michelle have chosen to become part of this rich history as they continue writing their love story.
