In the summer of 2022 Michelle was spending the summer working in the equestrian program at Camp Mondamin. On a whim, Steele decided to fly down from Michigan to join his brother and sister at camp for alumni weekend. Little did he know that instead of reliving the glory days of the classic all boys summer camp, he would meet the love of his life. Camp Mondamin sits on Lake Summit in Tuxedo, North Carolina. Picture cabins overlooking the lake, a large dock complete with rope swing, and a 30 ft top platform for jumping into the murky depths. The shores are lined with canoes, kayaks, sail boats and various gathering points where you can naturally find yourself sitting in the grass playing cards or listening to someone strumming a guitar. The nostalgia is thick in the air and chaos twinkles out of the grass like fireflies. At the first dinner Steele struck up conversation with a cute girl he had never seen around before. After some playful banter (F the redwings) they found themselves in the lake. They were inseparable for the rest of the weekend. That lake swim turned into an 18 month long-distance relationship. Meeting each other wherever they could, Steele and Michelle built a foundation over distance. In 2023, Steele took a leap of faith and relocated to Asheville to build a life with Michelle. On April 17th Steele brought Michelle up to the Fryingpan fire tower on the Blue Ridge Parkway and officially asked her to commit to a life of loving each other. And the next step is making it official. We hope you can be a part of the story this fall in the Smokey Mountains where it all started!
