Travel Note

Travel Considerations

Please note that the wedding venue, Red Mountain Alpine Lodge, is at 11,000 feet. Although this makes for an unbelievably beautiful view, it also means you might feel the negative effects of high altitude (especially if you are coming from sea level). If possible, it is helpful to arrive at least 2-3 days before you ascend to 11,000 feet and spend some time at mid elevations (such as Durango). If not possible, you might consider sleeping at lower elevations, either in Silverton or Ouray, both of which have lodging options and are approximately 30 minutes away from the Red Mountain Alpine Lodge. Please note that driving between the lodge and these towns is somewhat technical. For the wedding night, anyone not staying at the venue will need to be shuttled in per county laws. Details to come on the shuttle schedule.

Feel Good At High Elevation

Ascend slowly. If that's not possible, consider sleeping at lower elevations (Silverton or Ouray). Stay hydrated. Drink water with electrolytes. Don't drink alcohol (or drink less). Supplement your oxygen. Consider taking high altitude supplements such as Altitude Adjustment. We will do our best to support our guests in these efforts and likely will offer some type of oxygen supplementation (details to come) and supplement/electrolyte support. We want you all to feel good!

Durango airport is a roughly 1.5 hour scenic drive from the Red Mountain Alpine Lodge.

Montrose, Colorado (MTJ)

Montrose is a somewhat smaller airport. It is about 1 hour from Red Mountain Alpine Lodge. Also scenic!

Hotel

Red Mountain Alpine Lodge

Red Mountain Alpine Lodge (RMAL) is the wedding venue and also offers semi-private sleeping options for those of you who would like to stay there. Private rooms are reserved for family only at this time. All meals, Friday through Sunday, are included for those staying at the lodge. All wheel drive or four wheel drive vehicles are strongly recommended for accessing RMAL. Please visit the venue website for more information on sleeping accommodations and let us know if you would like to confirm a bed space.

Thelma Hut

The Thelma Hut is reserved for parents and grandparents of the bride and groom only at this time and is across the highway from the Red Mountain Alpine Lodge. Meals are also included. Please keep in mind that an all wheel drive or four wheel drive vehicle is strongly recommended for accessing Thelma Hut.
