In eighth grade, he finally worked up the courage to ask her to the school dance. They shared their very first dance together—something Matt would later say was the moment he knew she was pretty special. When middle school ended, Matt wasn’t quite ready for their story to end. He spent that summer trying to convince Michelle that they should keep things going. Unfortunately for Matt, Michelle wasn’t totally convinced at the time, and the two went their separate ways as high school began. Fast forward a few years to senior year of high school, when fate (and maybe Matt’s persistence) brought them back together. This time, everything just clicked. The timing was finally right, and what started as a middle school crush turned into the real thing.
