His: The story of how Michelle and I met may seem simple on the surface, but beneath that is the chance intersection of two lives that would become one. I was working at a small school in San Diego, none the wiser that our recent hire would eventually become my fiancée. Soon after, I found myself captivated by her. I couldn't take my morning train commute without thinking of ways to "play it cool" while tempering my urge to just ask her out and hope I didn't seem like a weirdo (I still am). I found new and inventive ways to be in the same area at lunch time, or need "help" on work tasks. Then came our first date. Problem was, she didn't know that it was a date. I told Michelle I had an extra padre game ticket that my friends and I were going to and asked if she wanted to come with. She agreed and operation "play it cool" was in motion. Turns out my friends couldn't make it, a fact I had known already. That evening we completely connected on every level, from family and sense of humor, to goals and aspirations in life. Looking back now I still feel that intrinsic connection to Michelle, a true soulmate. Hers: When I first started my new job at a small school, Matt was the one tasked with giving me a tour of the campus. I remember him making jokes, asking me about myself, and "warning" me about some of my more interesting co-workers. He came across as confident, kind, and easy-going. While I knew I didn't want to date a co-worker, I remember hoping that we could at least be friends. What I didn't know was that both of those things would happen, and that our lives were about to change in the best way. So as I'd hoped, Matt and I quickly became friends. We spent our lunches bonding over shared interests and exploring the streets of Old Town. And then, before I knew it, we were on our “first date”. Sitting there in Petco Park, we talked and laughed and missed most of the game. It was perfect. And the rest, as they say, was pretty much history.
