How We Met

Who recruited whom

He was very talkative and I wanted to recruit him for this multilevel marketing program I was working. He wasn't my type but he made me laugh and the rest is history.

The Proposal

July 26 2019

I had movie night in my sister's backyard for my birthday. Invited several friends to watch Black Panther. Nothing was going well. Couldn't keep the power going which made everything late. Lendell was bugging me to start early and I adamantly refused. When dusk came I played the PSA my niece made. Lendell went to make a welcome speech. He talks all the time I didn't think anything of it. I didn't hear his speech but I saw Lendell struggle to get down on one knee. I thought he fell. Shocked.

Always Caring for Me

This year started with a struggle. I’d been sick on and off for over 8 months. So many antibiotics and steroids treating pneumonia and upper respiratory infections. Month after month struggling. In March I tested positive for COVID 19. I was mad because I felt I had taken an undeserved beating. The disease is dark especially with the nightmares. One dream there was war where the virus army attacked my immune system and I was struggled to breathe. I awoke feeling a hand on my chest. I instantly started crying. I’ve had sleep apnea since I was a child. When I would get sick my mom would put her hand on my chest to check my breathing while praying. My lungs opened and I was able to breathe. I was scheduled to get married in June. I couldn't get a license because everything was closed due to the pandemic. So, let’s postpone it. I was stressed about my decision to postpone the wedding because the date was significant. June 13. would be my mother’s 80th birthday and the anniversary of my little sister’s death. Every year my family approach the date with sadness. I wanted to replace the day with an event of joy. My pastor made an announcement on Facebook you could get a priority marriage license. I went to the site to apply to find it was for first responders, hospice patients and for insurance purposes. None applied to me. I applied anyway expressing why I wanted the date. Days passed with no response. My little sister told me she was looking forward to our wedding because we needed it. I decided to have a commitment ceremony June 13. The church gave me permission to use the gazebo outside the church. I invited my friends and set up Zoom for out of town people. On Friday I received an email approving my priority marriage license request. The license was issued via Zoom. Now it was going to be a wedding. The weather was beautiful; bright and the sun brought warmth. If felt my mom’s presence. Thank you, Momma, for always taking care of me.
