How We Met

April 24, 2021

We met online where Michelle was attracted to John's profile where he said "I Bleed Blue." Haha! We all know she bleeds RED! We talked for a week or two before planning our first date. Our first date was going to be at Main Event, but John got there early and quickly realized this was not a good first date option. It was a rainy Saturday, and the place was a zoo. John nervously called Michelle to explain the situation and suggested they go with Plan B. Plan B was to meet for dinner at Bourbon Bistro. We met for the first time outside the restaurant wearing masks (dang Covid). The evening started off with cocktails at the bar where the conversation was flowing easily, and then moved to a table for dinner and even better conversation. Half way through dinner Michelle realized this might be her last first date. John thought he might be on to something here. Towards the end of dinner Michelle mentioned she didn't want the date to end, which caught John off guard because he was thinking the same thing. We decided to continue the evening at a local bar because UK (that blue team) was playing in the NCAA National Volleyball Championship game. John's parents are huge fans and were there in attendance and also there to celebrate his mom's birthday. We finally landed at the Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot with quite an eclectic crowd around us. UK went on to beat Texas, so it was a fun ending to the evening. John being chivalrous walked Michelle to her car where they ended the evening with a hug. The hug felt perfect for John and he wanted a second one. He politely asked Michelle for another hug and her response was "just a hug." Michelle still to this day doesn't remember saying this, but it left John with a confusing ride back to Lexington that evening. It's still a funny story to this day.

The Proposal

January 12, 2022

John came up to Louisville on a usual Wednesday night to hang out. We try to get together on Wednesday nights so we see each other during the week since Michelle lives in Louisville and John lives about an hour away in Lexington. When John arrived, Michelle was putting the final touches on her outfit and makeup to go to dinner. While Michelle was getting ready John mentioned he brought a gift with him that was leftover from Christmas. Michelle thought absolutely nothing about the gift. When Michelle came downstairs John had the gift sitting by the couch. Michelle opened the gift kind of being silly and throwing the tissue paper up in the air. The gift was a photo album that had 4 small squares on the cover with pictures in two of them and the words "Will You Make Memories With Me" in the other two. Michelle thought well yeah, isn't that what we are already doing. She thought it was just a photo album to add pictures of them in and nothing more. Then John reaches behind a pillow and says there's a catch and pulls out a ring box. Michelle starts freaking out and can't believe this is happening. John gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him. Michelle was completely speechless and John had to ask "Is that a Yes?!" John all day had suggested getting pizza or burgers which was not what Michelle wanted and was a little annoyed with his suggestion. Of course, John had dinner reservations at Bourbon Bistro where we had our first date. When we got there the waitress brought out a bottle of champagne, that Mr. Oller had gone ahead and ordered for us. Such a sweet gesture! We enjoyed an amazing dinner together! On the way to dinner and home from dinner we called several family and friends to share the exciting news!
