The Wedding Website of Michelle Choi and Jiwan Son
Welcome to our wedding and country of origin. Here you will find some travel tips for (a) getting there, (b) accommodations in Seoul and (c) travel notes about a few popular places to visit outside of Seoul (Busan, Jeju-do, Gyeongju and Korea DMZ) and preparing for Korea. While not exhaustive, we hope this will assist with your travel planning. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions while making your personal travel plans.

Where to Stay in Seoul

Seoul is a massive city but well connected by its subway system. For getting to the Wedding / Official AP™ and your travel plans outside of our special day, we recommend booking accommodations near one of the following subway stations: (1) Gwanghwamun; (2) Myeongdong; or (3) Hongdae.

Cool places, Clinics, Helpful Apps, etc.

Travel Note

Busan

Second largest city in Korea known for its beaches, mountains, temples, fresh seafood and local cuisine. Approximately 3 hours from Seoul via KTX high-speed train.

Travel Note

Jeju-do

Largest island in Korea known for its beaches, nature, scenic hikes and food. Approximately 1 hour from Seoul via flights from Gimpo International Airport (GMP).

Travel Note

Gyeongju

Ancient capital of Silla (former Korean kingdom from 57 BCE to 935 CE), known today as the museum without walls for the cultural and archaeological sites in and around the city. Approximately 2 hours from Seoul via KTX high-speed train.

Travel Note

Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)

The fortified buffer zone that divides the Korean peninsula in half between North and South Korea. You cannot visit the DMZ on your own and must book a guided tour. There are half or full-day tours that depart from Seoul.

Preparing for Korea

Google Translate has a camera function for live translation of words on signs, menus, etc. However, Google Maps is highly inaccurate in Korea. We recommend downloading "Naver Map" or "KakaoMap" mobile applications for getting around. Uber is available (for Uber taxis) but we recommend downloading "Kakao T" mobile application for Kakao taxis (access to their much larger fleet).
