How we met

12/2022

Jerry and I were brought together by my best friend, Toni. At the time, she was the principal at the school where Jerry currently works, and one day she casually asked him if he’d be interested in meeting me. She showed him a picture, and immediately he said he recognized me. As it turns out, we had crossed paths years earlier—back in our high‑school days in Goldsboro, NC. He was a star basketball player for Eastern Wayne High School (Class of ’86), and I was a cheerleader for our rival school, Goldsboro High (Class of ’87). He remembered seeing me at games, even though life never brought us together back then. Toni exchanged our numbers, and soon Jerry called. From the very first conversation, it felt like we had known each other forever. The conversation flowed, he kept me laughing nonstop, and there was a comfort between us that neither of us could ignore. After several long, easy conversations, Jerry asked if we could meet for dinner. Our first date was at Cracker Barrel, and it was everything a first date should be—fun, effortless, and full of laughter. We talked for hours, asking questions, sharing stories, and realizing how natural it felt to be in each other’s company. From that night on, we talked every day and spent every weekend together—whether he was coming to Raleigh or I was heading home to Goldsboro. A few months into dating, it became clear to both of us: we weren’t just in love… we had found our person. And the rest, truly, is history. We cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together as HUSBAND AND WIFE.
