He Said Yes!

We have known each other since first grade. Jake claims he’s been in love with Shelly since grammar school. The first time Jake came to work on a school project at Shelly’s house he was getting beat up with a newspaper by her dad. That obviously did not deter Jake. They stated friends throughout grammar school. High school up quickly. Jake, Shelly, and their friend Robbie would hang out together a lot. Jake went to a dance at Shelly’s school with a friend and Shelly’s gone to a dance at Jake’s school with a friend. Jake would introduce Shelly to his girlfriend’s as his other sister. Shelly never suspected anything. Years have passed. Texts were sent every so often just to make sure Jake was still alive. Let’s be honest he has always been and will be the crazy one. Every once in awhile they would see each other. A few years ago Shelly went walking around with her nieces to go trick or treating. She ran into Jake and his amazing little girl Sloane. Jake and Shelly walked to together talking and catching up a little bit. Then texts would be sent. Jake would come to Shelly’s house a few times for various things. House warming party, a thank you dinner to friends…. Jake was living back with his parents with his two wonderful girls and his loud barking dog, Jake claims he didn’t bark before moving in with Shelly. Jake’s parents were moving to TN. Jake was trying to find a new place for his girls, dog, and self to live. Amongst that going on Shelly had texted Jake to just check in. Jake waited a couple days and told Shelly what was going on. Shelly thought about it for a day. Shelly texted Jake the next day and said if his dog Castor and her dog Maddie got along they could come and stay with her. She had the room. Jake texted the next day and asked if Shelly was drunk. Shelly then asked if that is what he thought of her. Jake responded no that it was just a kind offer that he didn’t expect and wanted to make sure Shelly was serious. Jake came over one day with Castor and his oldest daughter, Lily. This would be Castor and Maddie’s first meeting. They seemed unphased or bothered by the other. This made it official that Jake, the girls, and Castor would be moving in. The next few months were filled with adjustments, laughing, and games. Shelly was falling in love with the girls and Castor. Jake and Shelly would be flirting with one another. Jake would leave the sweetest notes for Shelly by the back door before she would leave for work. They would hide 5’ skeletons around the house for the other to randomly find. Everything was going very well. Jake and Shelly would go to a driving range. The girls, Jake, and Shelly had gone to family parties together and outlet malls. Lily would start asking when are Jake and Shelly getting married. It took Shelly and Jake by surprise. Then the true feelings starting coming out. Jake wrote a note telling Shelly how he felt. Shelly responded that she too had feelings for him. Shelly has never been happier or laughed so much. It truly has been an adventure. Shelly is not one to sit around and wait when she knows she wants something. She’s been like that her whole life. She planned on 02/29/24 she was going to propose to Jake. Shelly picked out a ring. She got some flowers. She was super nervous. Shelly told Jake that her friend Meagan, won a free hour rental for a golf bay and invited them. During the hour Shelly flagged the owner over who put a message on the screen. Jake was busy looking at his phone and not paying any attention to the screen. Shelly who is fiddling for the ring asked Jake what was on the screen. Jake looks up at the screen and read it a few times. Then he turned and Shelly was on her knee with a ring. He said Yes!
