* 13 Miles of Beach: Amelia Island is 13 miles long by 2.5 miles wide, roughly the size of Manhattan * Origin of its names: Amelia Island was named after Princess Amelia, daughter of English King George II. Fernandina Beach is names after Spanish King Ferdinand VII. * Isle of 8 Flags: Amelia Island is known as the "Isle of 8 Flags" as it has had the following flags flown over it since 1562: French, Spanish, British, Patriots, Green Cross, Mexican Revolution, Confederacy and finally, United States of America. * Nature: 10% of Amelia Island is park preserves - For outdoor fun, explore Fort Clinch State Park, Amelia Island State Park, Egan's Creek Greenway or Little and Big Talbot State Parks to the south.

This is a designated stop on the Great Florida Birding Trail and also designated into the state system of Greenways and Trails. Consisting of over 300 acres of protected lands, the natural setting, with its habitat and grass-covered trails is ideal for hiking, biking, dog walking, wildlife and nature observation and photography.
