Dan was finishing his last clinical rotation of PT school. Michel just finished her stint on the evening crew at Tesla. Both were tired but excited to blow off some steam at the gym on yet another big Saturday... As Dan sauntered past Michel after dropping yet another flawless snatch, Michel (who wasn't impressed) asked Dan "is your belt from My Hero?". Dan, who was sneakily admiring her from afar earlier that day, was thrown into disbelief that his gym crush said anything to him besides "are you done with those plates?" so he retorted with a brief and mumbled "yeh" that was standoffish and borderline rude. As he loaded his next weight, his cognitive delay timed out and he came to. He walked back to Michel and dropped the pick up line of all time: "Do you like anime?!" After that, the two became more and more acquainted at Iron Warehouse each time they worked out until Dan moved back to Southern California. (Temporarily)
A year after Dan & Michel had fallen in love in the romantic city of Los Angeles's Koreatown, Dan took Michel somewhere more secluded and intimate to pop the question. In a hidden gem that captured and recreated the natural beauty of Japan in California, he proposed in a Ryokan House after a marvelous dinner in Napa. Having a whole a speech prepared, Dan got on one knee in the rock garden of the ryokan and spaced out his whole speech by saying, "I love you so much, and I can't live without you, will you marry me?" Both with tears in their eyes, Michel said YES!
