Way back in 2023, Michael was home from Savannah for Father's Day Weekend. He was swiping on Hinge and ran across an incredibly beautiful lady with an enchanting smile. He swiped right, and that lady, Dr. Tovah, luckily swiped right too! She was intrigued by the fact that he was Jewish, a lawyer, and into sports, but what really caught her eye was that he liked Broadway. As an avid theater goer herself (Hi Shoo!), she thought what the heck? They started chatting and hit it off. Several days later, to Tovah’s surprise, Michael's location said that he was 1,000 miles away! When she asked him about it, he told her that he lived in Savannah, Georgia, but was home in Evanston visiting his family for the weekend. While this would have deterred most, Tovah and Michael kept on chatting. This progressed to leaving Hinge and graduated to texting, then phone calls, then FaceTimes. They cooked together, watched movies together, even played some games, all over long distance. A constant presence was Tovah's deep question of the day - at first, somewhat silly, get-to-know-you style questions that turned into meaningful conversations about any and all topics. Tovah was very impressed by Michael’s thoughtfulness and was pleasantly surprised by how many values they shared. Michael was blown away by this intelligent, beautiful doctor who wanted to spend time with him after a full day of working with sick kids and hanging out with her favorite niece. After five months, he worked up the courage to ask if they could meet in person when he came home for his friends' wedding (thanks Sean and Laura!). Tovah planned the date (Home team rules) — drinks and snacks at Guildhall followed by the Chicago Botanical Gardens’ Lightscape show. When Tovah first saw Michael, she was relieved he wasn’t too short (Michael sent a few too many photos standing next to his friend Dane, who is 6’4”). More importantly, as soon as her eyes locked with Michael’s, she felt like she had known him for her whole life. Michael even remembered how to wear his winter coat, hat, and gloves. The date was a roaring success! A couple of months later, Tovah came to Michael’s home turf for a three-day personal tour of Savannah. Tovah fell in love with Forsyth Park: an excellent place for people watching when the locals bring art and food every Saturday under the most magnificent oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Michael was so set on making Tovah happy, he had three different dinner reservations on Friday night alone, just to make sure she could pick what she pleased. From that weekend on, Tovah and Michael were each other’s person. Though the days together numbered less than those apart, Michael and Tovah filled them with pickleball, a few tastes of whiskey, Joie time, family trips, and most importantly, joy. When apart, Michael made sure to be the first message on Tovah’s phone every morning and Tovah loved calling Michael every night. They have visited multiple countries and cities together, proving what Michael always tells Tovah- “No matter where we go, home is where you are.” Thank you to all the friends and family that helped Tovah and Michael along the way, it never would have worked if it hadn’t been for your humor, advice, time, and love. See you in July!
