Woodford Reserve is one of our favorite distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Tours can be booked online and last one hour. They are followed by a bourbon tasting!
Buffalo Trace is located in Frankfort, Kentucky's capital. Tours are free and reservations aren't required for the standard tour. A tasting follows the tour.
Maker's Mark is a little out of the way, but in addition to taking a distillery tour, you can dip your own Maker's Mark bottle during your visit.
This is our favorite brewery in Lexington. Shotgun Wedding and Cougar Bait are the most popular beers, but there are always a couple dozen on tap.
We are so excited for Castle & Key to open its distillery to the public soon. Formerly the Old Taylor Distillery, it has been abandoned for over 40 years until purchased in 2014. A rye whiskey is planned for release in 2018, crafted by the only female Master Distiller in Kentucky.
Shaker Village is one of our all-time favorite places (and the location of our engagement photos). Tour the Historic Centre, which was home to the third largest Shaker Community in the United States for 105 years, or hike in the 3,000 acres of land surrounding the village.
Graze is our favorite restaurant in Kentucky. We prefer its original location (150 Combs Ferry Rd., Winchester KY), but if you want to stay in Lexington, its downtown location is still top-notch. The menu rotates based upon locally-available meat and veggies, but they will work with you on any dietary restrictions. Reservations are recommended.
There are several companies that offer tours through Kentucky horse farms. Pickup is available at many hotels throughout Lexington, and tours include several stops. This is a good way to learn more about the Thoroughbred industry in the Horse Capital of the World!
