Things To Do, Eat, and Drink in Detroit

We're so excited to welcome our friends and family to Metro Detroit for the weekend! Here are a couple things to do and restaurants to try while you're in town.

Detroit Institute of Arts

5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202

Must see in Detroit! The Detroit Institute of Arts is a museum institution located in Midtown Detroit and has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States. Awarded the Best Art Museum in the United States in 2023 and 2024 by USA Today!

Detroit Historical Museum

5401 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202

Must see in Detroit! The Detroit Historical Museum chronicles the history of the Detroit area from cobblestone streets, 19th century stores, the auto assembly line, toy trains, fur trading from the 18th century, and much more. It is also across the street from the Detroit Institute of Arts!

Eastern Market

2934 Russel St, Detroit, MI 48207

SATURDAY MORNING/AFTERNOON ONLY! Must see in Detroit! Farmers market that also has crafts by locals. Galleries and shops surround the historic “sheds”. Good breakfast at Vivio’s. Wine at Cost Plus. Incredible selection of cheese at historic DeVries and Co.

Michigan Central Station

2001 15th Street, Detroit, MI 48216

After 30 years abandoned, Michigan Central Station reopened to the public in 2024.

The Heidelberg Project

3600 Heidelberg Street, Detroit, MI 48207

The Heidelberg Project is a street installation visited by art lovers worldwide. Very Detroit.

Cantoro Trattoria

15550 North Haggerty Road, Plymouth, MI 48170

Our favorite Italian place in Metro Detroit.

Leo's Coney Island

7160 Orchard Lake Road, MI 48322

Our favorite diner for a laidback meal. Serves breakfast all day!

Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina

29110 Franklin Road, Southfield, MI 48034

Wood fired pizza and Italian food not far from the Westin.

Lumen Detroit

1903 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226

Upscale, modern American cuisine & drinks in a stylish locale with outdoor tables in heated igloos.

Cafe D'Mongos Speakeasy

1439 Griswold Street, Detroit, MI 48226

Even though it’s only open a few hours a week (Thursday-Saturday evenings), Café D’Mongo’s is a legendary Detroit bar that is somehow off the beaten path and in the mix of everything all at once. Among the heavy-handed drinks is the Detroit Brown, which is Crown Royal, bitters and Vernors and the favorite sandwich is a grilled cheese named after famed teenage drug dealer White Boy Rick.

Leila

1245 Griswold Street, Detroit, MI 48226

Great spot for Lebanese food.

La Feria

4130 Cass Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201

Spanish tapas and sangria.

Hunter House Hamburgers

35075 Woodward Avenue, Birmingham, MI 48009

Tiny, landmark hamburger joint for sliders with grilled onions, plus chili fries, shakes & hot dogs.

For all the days along the way
