FAQs

Your one stop for "I'm stumped".
Question

Do I need a passport to go the the US Virgin Islands?

Answer

Nope! As a US territory, you don't need a passport to come to paradise.

Question

Do I need a COVID vaccination or test before I come?

Answer

*We HIGHLY encourage COVID vaccination and have no control over future requirements of businesses in the Virgin Islands or at the wedding venue itself. Yes, you’ll need a negative COVID test. Please keep abreast of any changes as your travel date approaches. Domestic travelers (includes U.S. mainland and other U.S. Territories): Domestic travelers must submit a negative antigen or NAAT COVID-19 test result within 5 days of travel. They will ask for this at the airport upon arrival. You will need to submit your information to the site here: https://www.usvitravelportal.com/ You will not need to provide a negative COVID test to return from the USVI to the mainland US.

Question

How do I get to St. John?

Answer

All travel information is located under the travel menu option and will help guide you in getting to paradise. It's actually pretty easy!

Question

Where should I stay on St. John?

Answer

The two main areas to stay are Cruz Bay and Coral Bay with many other smaller areas scattered all over the island. Cruz Bay is the hub of activity where the ferry arrives and where there are also many restaurants, bars, shops, and activities. In contrast, Coral Bay is where people tend to stay to get away from it all. If you don't rent a car, we recommend staying in Cruz Bay for easier transport. The island only has two "resorts". Instead there are a wide array of rentals and villas through AirBnB and VRBO. Go in with friends or family and get a big villa to share in the fun!

Question

How do I get around on St. John if I don't rent a car?

Answer

There are many taxis on St. John. The most popular ones are open aired safari trucks. Often you can call ahead and reserve. There are often taxis waiting around in Cruz Bay or at the beaches. Keep in mind you are on island time and give yourself some wiggle room if you need to be on time. The following are good options: Star Fish Tours & Taxi 340-998-6139 Mitchell “Chico” Samuel: Call or text 340-690-6507 St John Taxi Service – 340-693-7530 Paradise Taxi – 340-714-7875 Moses: 340 642 2043 Owen: 340-626-6274 Elvis: 340-642-0555 Ricky Penn: 340-513-1627 Merv: 340-690-1244 Erin: 340-344-4234 Avery: 340-690-0177 Clayton: 340 626 0573 Tafari Oliver 340 998 0231 Lisa and Mitchell 340-513-7444

Question

Can I use my phone without charges and is there WIFI in the Virgin Islands?

Answer

Your phone plan should operate seamlessly in the Virgin Islands, without additional need for international plans. The main cellular providers are Sprint and AT&T but we have no problem with Verizon. WIFI is plentiful on the island, but there are very occasional periods of power outages that are beyond everyone's control and can be a bit unpredicatable. They are a great excuse to disconnect and relax in the moment!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Weather is most mild between April and June, meaning temperatures won’t be too high yet. With an average high of 89 degrees and an average low of 76 degrees, weather in St. John in June is just right, which means beach attire is almost always appropriate! It's always a good idea to bring a light jacket with you in case of rain or winds that can pick up in the evening.

Question

How do I get to the wedding?

Answer

Our wedding is located just above Maho Bay at the Maho Bay House, which is a 20 minute drive from Cruz Bay and 8 minute drive from Coral Bay. All taxis can provide you transportation to the wedding venue. It will be best to book a reservation ahead of time to avoid delays to the big event! The address is hard to find if you look it up so the best advice is to tell your cab driver that you are headed to the Maho Bay House. Once you reach the end of Maho Bay and begin to turn inland to the right, you will drive approximately a football field length to right before where the road splits. The driveway is on the left and there will be a sign to mark the wedding! Following the wedding there will be shuttles arranged to transport anyone who desires transport back to the center of Cruz Bay. There is some parking at the wedding venue, but it is limited so if you choose to drive, please try to carpool!

Question

Is there a dress code for the wedding?

Answer

Truly no rules but upscale casual is probably the best advice - Dress in whatever colors you please! You might want to bring those flats, ladies! There will be immense amounts of dancing.

Question

Are there grocery stores on St. John?

Answer

Absolutely! If you are wanting to make a trip to grab some food to have at your villa or hotel, there are a number of options. If you've rented a Jeep on St. Thomas, we recommend Cost U Less (kinda the Costco of USVI) or Moe’s Fresh Market Redhook (more natural food options). On St. John, there's Starfish Market or Dolphin Market in Cruz Bay. There is also the option of having your villa stocked with items when you arrive. This is called "provisioning" and can be arranged for a fee. The St. John grocery stores can provide this or you can contact Landlubber Logistics at www.landlubberlogistics.com/

Question

Are there babysitters on the island?

Answer

Yes! There are a number of companies but one of the most reputable is Kids' Night In. Find them at www.kidsnightin.com. Make sure you make reservations way ahead of time, as they will book up at this busy time of the year.

Question

What's reef safe sunscreen and why do I need it on St. John?

Answer

The delicate and diverse ecosystem of the oceans have been damaged by chemicals in regular sunscreen, so there is a ban in the USVI on sunscreens that contain toxic chemicals. Here is a website, which provides more information and some suggestions on brands that are best to protect the precious reefs https://newsofstjohn.com/reef-safe-sunscreen-guide/
