How We Met + Our Pre-Dating Story

This question's a good one, because I can only tell you how we met from what our mom's tell us, not from my own memory. Our moms met when we were toddlers! Both of us would say that we don't have a memory of not knowing each other because we grew up almost like brother and sister. We grew up as best friends. As we grew, we began to learn it was hard to be just best friends. Everyone always told us that guys and girls can't be just best friends - someone always has feelings for the other. That was true, though we would often both deny it...at least I would. It seems that at one point I was actually head over heels for him, because we have a home video of me walking up and planting a kiss on Michael in the backyard one summer...AT AGE 4! Other than that, I really only remember Michael being annoyingly in love with me for most of my life and myself just being *mostly* absolutely repulsed at the thought. He was too much "like my brother." Things seemed to go back and forth until half way through high school when we had a conversation about the state of our friendship. We made an agreement to never date and just remain best friends so that we could enjoy our friendship without messy feelings getting in the way.

Dating My Best Friend

In January of 2018, I broke that "just friends forever" agreement. I really didn't mean to...I had spent my whole life friend-zoning Michael. But suddenly, half way through sophomore year of college, something happened. I just decided I didn't want to spend any part of my life without him and I had no clue what I would do if he ever started dating someone else. When jealousy started rising up in me over other girls in his life, I knew I had feelings. It was scary at first because I had spent the majority of my life telling him no when he said he wanted to date and told me he had feelings for me. 2 days after I returned to school for the start of the second semester of sophomore year, I called Michael. I did something I never thought I'd do - I told him I liked him, more than just my best friend. It was about a 3 hour conversation. His response was something along the lines of "why'd you wait until now," as well as encouraging both of us to pray about it and seek wise counsel before we decided to actually date. A month later, on February 3, the day after my sorority semi-formal where things were both incredibly fun and incredibly awkward amidst unspoken feelings and decisions, we talked on the phone for another 3 hours and decided to date. A week later we went on our first date (Casablanca and seeing The Greatest Showman), and it was immensely awkward and weird and clumsy and just like being with your best friend but also trying to date your best friend. The rest of our almost 2 year relationship has been the most fun I've ever had. We're getting to marry our best friend and it's a dream come true.
