We met at our church's homeless outreach in Tampa, Florida. From Nadine's perspective: It was January 11, 2016 (coincidentally, my father's birthday, God rest his soul). Before this day, I would have secretly laughed at you inside if you said anything about "love at first sight" being real. I had just stepped out of my car at the outreach and laid eyes on Michael for the first time. At that instant, everything around me started moving slowly, like the movie 'The Matrix.' I had to collect myself and play it cool as I walked up to serve the homeless alongside other church servants. Lo and behold, I ran into my friend, Amy, whom I proceeded to inconspicuously inquire, "who is that guy?" She explained that he was a Chiropractor doing an internship at a local clinic and that he could help me with some injuries I had sustained in a car accident the prior year. Then Amy said to my delight, "come, let me introduce you." I walked up to Michael and Amy said, "Michael, meet Nadine, your new patient."
From Nadine's perspective: We had been trying to arrange a weekend where his family could come down from Toronto to Florida and meet my family. Easter weekend 2018 was the perfect opportunity as my entire family was going to be in town then. Unfortunately, his family could not find any available flights at first, so the last I heard was that they were not going to make it to FL for Easter and that they would try another time. Fast forward to Saturday night, Michael had come from Clearwater to Daytona to attend liturgy with me and had arrived at church before me. He told me that he had a surprise for me. I walked in and was seated and thought that he was going to be a deacon as a surprise. I was scanning the church and could not see him as the church was packed. Then, a woman sitting several rows in front of me caught my eye. She looked just like Michael's mom, Tante Wafaa. I was staring hard at her for a good 10 minutes during the papal message to try to figure out if she was a Daytona look-a-like of his mom, but I could only see her side profile. Then, she turned her head and I realized that it was actually her!!! I was sooooo happy, I texted Michael and said, "is that your mom I see???" He sent me a smiley and I started tuning in to the papal message again. After a while, I glanced at the men's side of the church and saw a man whose head looked just like Michael's dad, Uncle Magdy. Then I looked further and saw his brothers, Mathew and Mark, and finally saw Michael. I texted him again and said, Your WHOLE family is here ???!!!! to which he replied "Focus." Of course I could barely focus and asked my mom, who never ever lies, if she knew they were coming. She promptly and convincingly replied, "No." My brother Mark also played a huge role in further convincing me that no one knew. He left church to go grab takeout to make sure we had enough Easter dinner for 5 additional people. I was on cloud 9 with this WONDERFUL surprise! #OnCloudFahim
How he did it: We were supposed to meet on the beach to watch the sunrise on Easter Sunday morning; however, we both went to bed around 4:30am-5am after celebrating the wonderful surprise of Michael's family visiting. I tried to reach Michael at 7am to see if he was coming and he did not wake up, so I went back to sleep. An hour later, he calls and profusely apologizes then tells me to come downstairs and meet him. I was so exhausted and told him that I needed to sleep so I could function later in the day, so he reluctantly let me go back to bed. Around 10:30am, I called him and he told me to come downstairs to the beachside where he was parked. I got into the passenger seat and Michael began exclaiming how he found something wrong in the trunk of his car and that I had to come look at it, now! I was wondering what could be that bad, but I got out and walked to the trunk. Mr. Sneaky removed his cargo cover and an explosion of balloons which he had tied down came out and was blowing in the ocean breeze. Michael then handed me a huge bouquet of colorful roses, and I STILL did not realize I was getting proposed to because he usually does sweet things like this for me. Not until he pulled a box out of a compartment in his trunk and got down on one knee to propose, did I realize what was happening. I was so elated and immediately said yes when he asked.
