Michael and McKenna are high school sweethearts. Both have grown up in Naples, Florida but their paths didn’t cross until McKenna transferred to First Baptist Academy in 2015. Well, their paths didn’t “naturally” cross. More like Michael’s friends had pushed him into McKenna’s path by badgering him to ask her to the homecoming dance, despite the two never talking or meeting before he asked her. With a handwritten sign and the football team gathered behind him, McKenna said yes to the date. It’s tough to fit 8 years of a story in a small blurb of a website, but 8 years of Michael and McKenna looked like 2 kids learning how to do life together. If you had recorded their time together you would see McKenna in the stands of Michael’s football games, Michael telling McKenna awful jokes to see her eyes roll, and the two of them spending lazy days with their cats, Shiloh and Iroh. On October 12, 2023, Michael and McKenna stood alone on the St. Petersburg beach. No football team or handwritten sign was needed to ask McKenna to be his homecoming date for life, because them being together felt like coming home.
