It was love at first sight. Sort of…. We took our time getting there! It may come as a surprise to you after reading our story that we didn’t meet until our mid-20’s. Michael’s childhood home was across the street from my grandparent's, we swam at the same country club pool as kids, both graduated from the College of Charleston, sharing many mutual friends – it amazes both of us that we didn’t meet earlier. Of all places, we met playing on an adult kickball team. Michael was the pitcher and captain of our team, and my official position was catcher, but really, I was a glorified cheerleader and the designated social captain. Friendship during those days later developed into more; we spent time sporadically throughout the years. We both landed in California in our late 20’s for a few years – me in San Francisco and Michael in San Diego. When Michael left San Diego, he “slid into my dm’s,” and we had dinner on one of my frequent trips to South Carolina from San Francisco. I’m not ashamed to admit that Michael was the biggest reason for my move back to the east coast, and my parents haven’t stopped thanking him since! We got engaged on Christmas Day of 2020 after a chain of very embarrassing events including a skirt catching on fire. My skirt… on the backside. Gary helped put the fire out, and Pat helped treat the wound. A (very) warm welcome to the family. It may always be a mystery if “The Third Day of Michael’s Christmas” truly was his plan to propose or if he was trying to cheer me up with the ring that had been weighing down his pocket for a few days. We are immensely blessed and excited for a lifetime together!
