Our dream to bring together our loved ones from the US and Peru is finally coming true, and what better place to do it than in Mexico? We're beyond excited to see you there and celebrate together!

How We Met

Sunday, September 16, 2018

We met in September 2018 in Lima, Lu's home city. Michael was on an adventure backpacking around South America to improve his Spanish and discover new cultures. Believe it or not, we met on a dating app while Michael was staying in Lima. Our first date was on a Sunday afternoon at a coffee shop called 'La Panettería' in Barranco, our favorite neighborhood in Lima. We had such a great time talking and laughing that we decided to continue the night with dinner. Time flew by, and before we knew it, six hours had passed! After that, we went on a date almost every day until it was time for Michael to continue his travels in northern Peru.

The proposal

Sunday, April 17, 2024 - Puppy Yoga

Although we had a civil union in Peru in 2019, we didn't have an official proposal then. So, after almost 5 years of marriage, Michael decided to surprise Lu with the proposal she always deserved. He thoughtfully combined Lu's favorite things—puppies, beer, yoga, and friends—to make it unforgettable. He had this sneaky plan of making a fake flyer for a Puppy Yoga event and had one of Lu's friends share it in their group chat. On the big day, Lu gathered up all of her friends for yoga with puppies. Everyone was having a blast and playing with the adorable pups. There was a nervous energy in the air, but Lu seemed to have no idea. Right before the big moment, the yoga instructor had everyone clothes their eyes and take a moment of mindfulness. She picked up one of the puppies and clipped a sign on its collar that said "voltéate" (turn around in Spanish) before placing it in Lu's lap. Lu opened her eyes, saw the sign, and shared a look of confusion. As she turned around, there was Michael, down on one knee, asking her to marry him. Shocked but thrilled, Lu said, "Yes." One of her friends handed her a phone that was connected to a video call with her family back in Peru so they could share the joy. Minutes after the proposal, more family and friends from Colorado showed up to celebrate the engagement. It was a beautiful gathering filled with love and happiness!
