It all started with a Grand Slam—not the breakfast, but a question. Mike liked Kelsey on Hinge, and Kelsey broke the ice by asking, “What’s a Grand Slam?” Mike, delighted by the chance to talk tennis, took the bait.
They met at Employees Only in the West Village, where conversation flowed as easily as the cocktails. One bar turned into three, and at the end of the night the first infamous shot bet was made - about Taylor Swift's birthday. Mike confidently claimed he shared a birthday with Taylor Swift—December 9. What Mike didn’t know (but quickly learned) was that he was dealing with a professional-level Swiftie. Kelsey won and has yet to redeem the winnings.
They went to see Fred Again at Forest Hills Stadium with Mike's groomsman, Dan, and his girlfriend, Claire. It was a departure from Kelsey's usual music preference (Taylor Swift), but she agreed to see one of Mike's favorite artists. It ended up being a cold and rainy night, but they brought ponchos, handwarmers and danced the night away.
To set the scene, Mike was coming down with a cold from going to the Fred Again concert a few nights prior, but he was determined to ask Kelsey to become his girlfriend before the end of the weekend. Unknowingly, Kelsey dragged him around West Village to look at Halloween decorations. Back at Kelsey's apartment, at the end of the night on Sunday, Mike popped the GF question.
When Mike and Kelsey set out to plan their first winter getaway, indecision struck. Mike created a PowerPoint presentation of his top four destinations - including pros and cons. They ranked the destinations and the unanimous winner? Turks and Caicos—ranked #1 by both judges.
In typical Mike and Kelsey fashion, they decided to move in together 6 months in advance. During those 6 months, Mike created a spreadsheet of the best apartment buildings in all of Manhattan for the apartment search. After many apartment tours, they landed on Abington House and absolutely love it. Moving day didn't go as smoothly as the apartment hunt, but that's a story for another time.
At the beautiful LaGuardia Airport, we met Wellington—and our lives were forever changed. Raising a puppy in a NYC apartment in the dead of winter wasn’t easy, but he is the best boy!
Mike and Kelsey decided to take the day off and soak up some classic NYC summer activities. Mike volunteered to plan the entire day—which immediately made Kelsey suspicious. According to Mike’s very official agenda, things kicked off with a Central Park walk at 9:00am sharp. By 9:30am, Mike was down on one knee proposing on Bow Bridge. The rest of the day was packed in the best way: brunch at The Plaza, unwinding at a bathhouse, dinner at Manhatta (check the gallery for a photo!), and countless FaceTimes—just to name a few.
