Michael and Hayley met in Los Angeles where Hayley is from, and where Michael moved after he graduated college. They attended the same workout class and met through mutual friends. At first, they were just friends. This lasted about 2 months until one day when Michael went home for the Holidays, they realized their feelings for each other were stronger than just friends. On New Years Eve 2014, Michael went out with Hayley and her friends, and her friend Hailey finally pulled Michael aside and said "you better make her your girlfriend before the night is over, or else." Michael listened, and the rest is history.
On Memorial Day Weekend, we had planned to have a small picnic with some of our friends. Hayley was excited for a day to finally sit in the sun and have a "chill" day. Little did she know she was about to have the most "unchill" day of her life. Michael had secretly been planning this proposal with friends from home and Kellogg and a photographer friend to follow us on the big day. But first, the weather. Michael had to abort mission the day before due to thunderstorms. Here comes Sunday. It is a BEAUTIFUL day and Hayley can't wait to get this picnic started. They begin walking down the path on the Lakefill and end at a spot to overlook the water with the city of Chicago skyline in the background. Hayley stops, looks at Michael and says, "wow babe, this is such a perfect moment. What are you like proposing?" Michael responds, "Well... yeah." He gets down on one knee, Hayley doesn't believe him. He reaches for his pocket, Hayley still doesn't believe him. He pulls out a ring box, HAYLEY FREAKS OUT. He asks her to marry him, she says YES and has a full blown freak out. He puts the ring on her finger she cries with joy. Next, they join their friends who were in on it and surprise the couple with bottles of champagne, Popeyes chicken sandwiches and music. It was the PERFECT day.
