Over five years have passed since Carey and Mike met that fateful day at Ropewalk Tavern (it's a new bar... they've never really been there before). After encouragement from Chris Bosstick, liquid courage, and the inevitable mandate from Kate Reck that they "figure it out", it was truly #loveatfirstglancey. Soon after, Carey's life became a series of unfortunate events... a double fracture on right wrist/arm (no one knows what happened to this day...) and the inimitable Dave Walden, Carey's father, was diagnosed with stage four cancer. It was truly through these life-altering events, that Carey knew Mike was the one for her. His unwavering commitment, love, and support helped Carey through the toughest chapter of her life so far. Thankfully, Mike and Dave did get to spend time together before he passed away on January 5, 2015. Their pastimes included spending nights at the Sherertz family home enjoying the warmth that Quiet Cove brings to even the coldest evenings, talking smack about sports, and making fun of Carey, sparing no expense. While their story was only beginning during this time and has had many chapters since the loss of Dave, the trials and tribulations faced together cemented the love and commitment that has brought happier times to the couple. Becoming puppy parents of Rigby, the most treasured (read: spoiled) pup in the world, buying a home in Federal Hill with lots of fun renovation projects, becoming Uncle and Aunt to Amelia and Ethan, countless weddings of our dear friends, and the ever-deepening relationship with family have brought no shortage of joy. This is the story of their first beginning, their next beginning is right around the corner - they cannot wait for you to join them as #glanceygetscareydaway!
It's no surprise or secret that when the proposal would happen was an absolute mystery. In fact, if Carey had a dollar for every time everyone asked "when", she would have at least 10 acres and three more puppies by now. It is precisely this lack of knowing and absolute mystery that made the proposal so memorable and special. On a super average Monday evening, Carey came home from work in her best Monday outfit (read: barely presentable). As usual, she was making dinner and when she came down the stairs from grabbing some glassware, she walked into a scene she had never encountered before: - Mike, on one knee, with a ring box in hand, asking "Will you marry me?" - Rigby, sitting perfectly, with a sign around his neck that said "Mommy will you marry daddy?" Glassware safely set aside, and iPad dropped with reckless abandon, Carey processed the scene with significant delay after stuttering the response, "Yes, of course." It was a full three minutes before Carey remembered the ring and could not believe the incredibly thoughtful and perfect ring that Mike had created for her. Tears ensued and Rigby was cuddled. The rest of the night was spent celebrating with one Whitney and Jamie Green (bridesmaid and closest friends), three bottles of rapidly disappearing champagne, four outgoing calls from Mike's phone and forty thousand outgoing calls and texts from Carey's phone.
