Michael and Akane’s story began with a simple swipe on Hinge on September 12, 2021. In a city like New York, where millions of people cross paths every day, it still feels crazy that a dating app brought us together. Over the last four and a half years, our love story has stretched across 6,740 miles (10,850 km), countless time zones, and more FaceTime calls than we could ever count. Long distance wasn’t always easy—but we were never doing it alone. To our family and friends: thank you for cheering us on through every airport goodbye, every late-night call, every visa update, every reunion countdown, and every “you guys got this!” message. Your love, encouragement, and support carried us through more than you know. Through one tiny swipe, we found a partner who values kindness, friendship, family, loyalty, and building a joyful life together. And somehow, across continents, that little connection turned into forever. And now, it brings us here. We’re so excited to celebrate our wedding with the people who made this journey so meaningful.
