Our Story

Question

Our Story

Answer

Porter and Michaela met in Concert Choir while attending Point Loma Nazarene University. After realizing how many classes they had in common, they quickly became friends. One day, Porter asked Michaela for help with homework. He came over to her apartment, and she tried her best to explain music theory. Surely this was not the true motive, and it is anyone's guess what the homework was about. The two slowly became inseparable. However, both parties had recently sworn off dating, and a relationship was the last thing either of them was prepared for. Many a roommate and friend had cautiously advised them against such a pursuit. One morning, Michaela was having one of these advisory conversations and decided to pray about it. She prayed the dangerous prayer, "Lord, if he's not a good one, take him out." Later that day, she was on high alert for a sign from the Lord. Porter invited her to the beach, so they went to their favorite spot. Shortly after they settled in, a woman approached them, wearing goggles and flippers, ready for a swim. She walked straight up to them and struck up a conversation. In the middle of her sentence, she stopped, turned towards Michaela, and said, "He is a good guy, I can tell. You guys would work out." Could this be the answer to the prayer? The woman hopped in the water and swam away. They never saw her return to the beach. The Lord has been answering many prayers for Porter and Michaela ever since. They have served in churches, finished college, and started new jobs together in the last two years. God has been so faithful and blessed their relationship. They learn to love one another more every day through service and humility. Porter brings out the best in Michaela. Michela brings out the best in Porter. Together, they hope to prayerfully walk into the future, ready to serve the Lord and bless one another.
