We had both been convinced to do a musical at the local community theater by people in our lives. At first we didn't have much time to interact, but there were many stolen glances on both sides. Then one day, Jake was going to the store down the street from rehearsal and asked if I would like anything... no one else, just me. I said sure! He came back with Strawberry wafer cookies. Something about them reminded him of me, he said. Closer to the time of the performance we got to talking more and more often and by the time the show was almost over we had gone on our first date, to get late night gas station pizza! We were so enthralled with each other that what we were doing didn't matter as much as who we were doing it with.
So we may not have had the most traditional proposal... I may have known about a month beforehand that Jake was going to propose to me. Not only because we had been together 6 years, bought a house together 4 months prior and I had just finished college two months before. Nope, those surprisingly weren't my dead giveaways. It was when my mom offered to help us find an engagement ring. When neither of us objected, she made it her mission to find the perfect ring for her picky daughter (I really wanted sapphires incorporated into it). A month went by and each day my nerves built more and more. When was he going to do it? Then one day we were going to Geneva-On-The-Lake for a family outing and I had a tiny suspicion that this could be the moment. After multiple almost proposal moments and me unknowingly being very uncooperative with their plans, we made our way down to the pier over-looking Lake Erie. Everyone kept telling me to go further out but I'm scared of heights so I made my way out veeeery slowly. I felt Jake come up behind me and whisper "They wanted you to come out here so I could do this." and when I turned around he was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring (lined with sapphires). I think my answer is pretty obvious...
