Our Story

We always like to say that we actually met twice. The first time we met was back in 2016 at UVA. We both were a part of a black campus ministry called OneWay and that is where we quickly become close friends. We used to meet bi-weekly for lunch in the beloved PAV where we used to enjoy some Chic-fil-A or Subway and just talk for hours about any and everything (Micah would always bring his bicycle inside and sit it near our table). We ended up losing touch after Kianna graduated, but still would check up on each other every now and again. The second time we met, was the reunion that changed everything. Kianna was out having dinner with a friend and Micah saw on Kianna's snapchat story that she was enjoying dinner at one of the restaurants he frequented in his city. He reached out, and at that point we realized that we lived in the same city; we promised we would catch up soon. After a month passed, Micah followed up with Kianna on Snapchat... Micah: Are you busy this Saturday? Kianna: Nope! Are we finally gonna catch up? Micah: Yes ma'am we are Kianna: Awesome, you wanna get lunch or dinner? Micah: Lunch would be great! Are you more of a brunch person or lunch? Kianna: Lunch is cool! Any suggestions? Micah: We could go to Vivify downtown? Kianna: Sounds good to me! Immediately after the meeting, we both knew we didn't want it to be another few years. When deciding when to meet next, Kianna asked if we should meet monthly or once every two weeks. Relieved, Micah quickly agreed to a biweekly meeting as he knew immediately (although not understanding why at the time) that he wanted Kianna to be a consistent person in his life moving forward. The snapchat conversation after our meeting went as followed: Micah: Thank you for hanging with me! You really did encourage me which I knew I needed, but had no clue how much I needed it. Kianna: Awww Micah, glad to be able to encourage! So happy we finally reconnected! Micah: Yesss! We started our biweekly hangouts ... but it quickly became much more than that. Micah finally showed up to Kianna's third invitation to church, and every other week quickly turned into Sunday after church debriefs and Tuesday night Black Bachelorette watch parties. We connected a lot during this time, learning about each other's deepest struggles and mistakes, praying for each other and encouraging each other. One day, after a particularly transparent conversation with Micah, Kianna finally "saw Micah as a man" instead of the 18 year old she first met years ago. And from that moment, as the people say, the rest was history.
