Ruben and Mia met through her oldest sister, Marry, who was best friends with Ruben growing up. When Mia was 19, Ruben did a tattoo for her. After this Ruben went to Marry and talked to her about asking Mia out and Marry relayed the information. With this information, it was actually Mia who reached out to Ruben first and from there the rest is history.
