How We Met

Neither of us can recall the exact moment we met; as youngsters, we shared mutual friends and the same homeschool co-op. Aubrey can recall conversation with Mia at co-op, and Mia remembers seeing Aubrey at Lego League as she rushed to her Pathfinder drill team meeting. The years passed and life went on. In 2017, we met again at Cohutta Springs Youth Camp in Crandall, GA. Our mutual best friend got married, and Aubrey stood as the best man, while Mia was the maid of honor in the wedding. We both can recall many schemes, jokes, and laughter together during that wedding. Our friendship over the next two years was a solid one, with collective memories of climbing out onto the blob together during thunderstorms, jumping off the Cohutta bridge into the lake, Aubrey putting on as many lifejackets as he physically could to entertain campers, and waking up early to watch the sunrise with friends. At the end of the summers, Aubrey went back to school at Walla Walla University in Washington, and Mia continued on at Southern Adventist University in Tennessee. One day in late 2018, our mutual friend texted Aubrey and asked him what he thought of Mia as a potential girlfriend. Aubrey thought about it over the weekend, then texted Mia. And so our relationship began. Since then, we’ve endured 6 months of long distance, travelled to Amsterdam and Indonesia, road-tripped across the US, survived a global pandemic, and so much more. During Thanksgiving break of 2019, Aubrey proposed to Mia at the Tunnel View overlook. Mia said yes, and here we are!
