It started out on a nice Friday evening at an outdoor ultimate frisbee event out at Goose lake park Anchorage Alaska. Isaac had just arrived to Anchorage two weeks prior and had been invited to an event called "The Burn" by a man with a rocking Afro at the time. Isaac, just a string bean straight out of the city life of California didn't really assumed much, rather all he expected was a bunch of bros hanging out trying to recruit squibs to their frats. Truth be told none of that happened, what it really turned out to be was an out door event filled with very active and athletic people who were eager to meet you. To his surprise, Isaac wondered around all the outdoor games available from corn hole all the way to ultimate frisbee. After a couple of street corn cobbs to fuel the belly, Isaac headed out to the field for some ultimate frisbee where he was to soon lay eyes on the most majestic and magical work of art of a woman crafted by the one and only with big capital "G", God! whom he called the beloved Melissa G. Diller :). Isaac being a singleton and unaware of the future that was to meet these two, simply glanced at her and kept playing the game with out a second though. Fast forwarding a couple of weeks of casual run ins with each other at Chi Alpha (Chi Alpha stands for "Christ Ambassadors" a Christian club on UAA campus) events...
***welcome back to the untold tale of Melissac, in this segment we get to learn how it was that Isaac went three week still without her number***. Being new to Alaska, there was so many new things to Isaac that he had been longing for since he was a child. From endless mountain ranges to climb, to water rafting down the canyons of the Chugiak river and up to the calming practice of fishing. With so much access to the out doors at just 10 minutes drive, Isaac felt like he had come home to a place far from home. Being plugged in a small group with loyal guys who devoted their lives to walk in the light of Christ, Isaac began to consider what it meant for him to follow Jesus. To lay his old way of living with all of its desires and to replace them the truthful promises that God had in store. It was not until October, that Isaac made the biggest decision of his life. To surrender and give up his life to Jesus the perfecter of faith and the life that shines in us. It was in this moment that things began to turn for the better. It was as if Isaac, was a completely different man. But back to the story, and I do promise that segment was vital to the story because if it was not for the transformation that Jesus worked in Isaac's heart. He would of never had the confidence nor the wisdom to pursue after someone as glorious as Melissa. Being born again (in spirit) at a Chi Alpha retreat, Isaac approached Melissa and asked "hey... um.. what's like your favorite animal and flower?". Melissa weirded out by the random and sudden question said " I don't know... an elephant and wildflower mix??". Isaac not knowing what to do next merely said " cool. see ya" The next week he received a Facebook message saying " hey not sure what you are planning but I'm not interested in you". I mean she might as well drowned the boy and took him out the back yard like old yeller and .... never mind that's not important.
*Ah your still reading this! looks like your captivated :) well lets see what Isaac did next after receiving a blunt rejection from his now to be married wife to be* Fast forward some more weeks, Isaac is still part of a small group and Melissa is a small group leader at Chi Alpha. Melissa at this moment thinks that Isaac is just some random run on the mill guy who "felt like the holy spirit told him to ask her out", but truth be told! Isaac was just impatient. On a beautiful Tuesday, of some random school week, Melissa gets news that this random guy that asked her a random question had just recently been baptized. (not sure why this sparked her interest but thank you Jesus!). Melissa's curiosity began to get the better of her. So much that this brilliant woman (not being sarcastic) decided to throw a whole pumpkin carving party and invite Isaac's small group leader and his group, just so that she can get to know who this young stud was who just got baptized. (I mean wow a party? just to get to know someone?? brilliant, and of course Isaac the singleton was oblivious to it all) After a couple of days after the pumpkin party, Isaac "curiously" had the idea to invite Melissa out to a coffee date. Which to save the details went great and actually was mutually enjoyable! So much that Melissa had the audacity to test Isaac at the end of the date by rejecting his request to walk her back to her car "which was parked on a sketchy alley! on a snowy and dark night!" but lucky for Isaac, his "living in the hood senses" came in and knew better than to let such a, marvelous work of art and beautiful child of God just simply walk alone to her car vulnerable to EVERYTHING! And so he pressed on to walk her anyways (which I was commended for in the future) A week passes, Isaac ask Melissa for a second date. This time to a botanic garden, it goes okay, but sadly, for our singleton, Melissa decides not to move forward...
*greetings, buckle up cause this story is headed for touchdown" After taking a fat L, our young singleton made it his mission to focus on God, rather than woman. Fast forward 6 months, Isaac begins looking for work to hopefully pay for his expensive tuition. God provides him with two, funny thing one by the executive pastor of Kingdom Life Church (KLC) and another by his son at an indoor basil farm "City Farms Alaska. To his surprise he found also working at the farm the marvelous work of art that God had made with his perfect hands my soon to be wife "Melissa G Diller". Luckily, Isaac didn't hold a grudge from the last breakup since he came to terms that Melissa had turned him down because he was just yet learning to trust on God and didn't want to get in the way (which now today I praise her for her fortitude). Listen y'all, working at a humid, hot basil farm for a whole summer and bike riding together to work worked its charm. Isaac built up the courage to ask her out one last time! But this time he was going to be more clever than last time (since he has 0 and 2) by asking her out on the last day of working there (again he was 0 and 2) right before heading out to Mexico for the rest of his summer (should I say it? he was 0 and 2). Well he now was 0 and 3. BUUUUT!! something great happened when our young singleton left bummed back to the motherland. The great woman who is a blessing and a gift from God (not being sarcastic) suddenly had a change of heart! (again Thank you Jesus!) two weeks into the vacation Isaac received a call from a very nervous girl who throughout the entire conversation pretend to care about how he was doing when in actuality was trying to muster all the strength she could to apologize and ask him this time if he would like to go out on a date with her...
*Fireworks* *Airhorns* *Silly String* IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!! Througout the summer of long distance they spent many nights on the phone talking, and upon his arrival back in Alaska, Isaac asked Melissa out on a date where he sealed the deal and they finally became an official couple. 15 glorious months later Isaac got on one knee and asked Melissa to be his wife, she said "yes!", and they are now anticipating a wonderful, joyous, and blessed life together. They expect hardships and trials of course, but they know that with God on their side they will make it to the end together and stronger than ever.
