Southern hospitality met the California dream on a night out with friends. What started as dancing and laughter quickly turned into a connection we didn’t expect but couldn’t ignore. We met just one month before Shawn left for deployment, and what could have been a short moment turned into something lasting. Coming from Mexican and African American backgrounds, we learned to love not only each other’s cultures but also each other’s families, finding home in both. Shawn proposed in his hometown in Georgia, making the moment even more meaningful. Soon after, we bought our first home together, beginning the next chapter of our lives side by side. Just a girl from the Central Valley and a boy from the South, building a life rooted in love, family, and choosing each other every day.
