In the spring of 2019, Jacob was living in a little apartment in the tourist town of Drumheller, Alberta. He had acted in the local Badlands Passion Play once before, in 2016, but hadn't gone back. He hadn't felt the need or desire to do so. But in the winter/spring of 2019, people -- even strangers -- began telling him he should participate in the play again. Eventually -- if only to silence the onslaught -- he decided to sign up to act in the July 2019 show. However, when he went to do so, he found his name was already on the list. He asked his Passion Play friends, but none of them owned up to signing his name. He took it as a sign from God and, accordingly, he showed up to the first Passion Play rehearsal in mid-May. In the spring of 2019, Sarah was preparing to graduate college in Saskatchewan and move to Regina, where she'd already begun a fledgling theatre career. But nothing seemed to be working out for the move. She was getting auditions, but not being cast, and she couldn't buy a job. Finally, reality set in. There was no way she could justify the move. She had auditioned for the 2019 Passion Play the previous October. They had cast her as ensemble, but she had intended to back out due to her plans to settle in Regina. She had not yet gotten around to sending that email. She decided to move to Calgary. She sent an email to Passion Play management asking if it would be okay for her to join rehearsals late, as she was wrapping up two shows in Saskatchewan. They agreed, and on 15 June, rehearsal week #5, she reported for her first Passion Play rehearsal.
