The Story

Their first conversation together was actually an interview. Both were attending the University of the Pacific, and Albert started pledging for a fraternity that Meryl was already apart for. As one of Albert's tasks as a pledge, he had to interview each member. Albert being Albert, asked the most intrusive questions he could come up with, but ended up making Meryl laugh throughout the entire interview. Her future bridesmaid, Christina, was dating his future groomsman, Christian, so they saw each other more often, and their circle of friends began to blend. Both of them were in separate relationships, so nothing happened between them for a while but they became good friends. Fast forward to Fall 2012 when both were single and he started being extra flirty towards her. Other people caught on, but she was completely oblivious. He got the courage to kiss her at Christian's birthday party. That first kiss lead to a first date which lead to a relationship revolving around eating, laughing, and many adventures together. Albert began graduate school at Pacific while Meryl started commuting to the Bay Area for work. They adopted their fur baby, Mufasa. After Albert finished grad school, they were eager to continue to build a future together, and decided to move to the Bay Area. After 5 years of dating, Albert, with blessings from both families, proposed to Meryl on top of Bernal Heights Park in San Francisco. Currently residing in Walnut Creek, Albert and Meryl, with Mufasa and Zion, are ready to take the biggest step of their lives and become husband and wife.

The Proposal

Albert and Meryl had all intentions of getting married for a while, but Albert wanted to give Meryl a proposal that she deserved and would remember forever. While Meryl took a trip up to visit her future bridesmaid, Sarah, Albert took advantage of the opportunity and picked out the perfect ring. With the ring picked, he now had to figure out how to pop the question! Their 5 year anniversary landed on Memorial Day and they planned eat at House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. However, the only reservation time they could agree on was Labor Day weekend. Albert used that time in between to figure out the details. He knew she wanted something private so he found a park in the city where he figured there wouldn't be huge crowds. Meryl has made her love of sweets very clear from the beginning and Albert made sure to incorporate dessert into the proposal. On the day of the proposal, Albert enlisted his future groomsman, Todd, to pick up a special order from Sprinkles Cupcakes. Albert snuck out of the house to retrieve the cupcakes at the pick up location and then got the blessings from both of their families before picking up Meryl for dinner. After a delicious meal, Albert suggested that they go get dessert after walking off all of the food at the park. However, Meryl set her sights on a slice of raspberry chocolate cake at the restaurant. She caught on that he was upset that she ordered the cake, but just thought it was because he wanted a different dessert. They went up to Bernal Heights afterwards, where there was a swing and an incredible sunset view of the city. Albert had her wait over by a secluded spot as he grabbed the box of cupcakes from the car. Meryl was really excited about seeing the Sprinkles box but didn't catch on until he had her open up the box and saw that the cupcakes spelled out "Marry Me?" After her initial shock, she turned around to find him down on one knee with the ring. She said yes!

When the World Changed

Our original wedding date was May 31, 2020, but then the world changed. For the safety of our friends and family, we decided to postpone our wedding. Although we postponed the celebration, we knew that we wanted to get married regardless. So on May 26th 2020, on a Zoom call with an Alameda County clerk we said I do. As a married couple, we wanted to make a huge addition to our family. With both of us working from home, we wanted to raise a puppy. We found our Australian Shepherd. We named him Zion, and he has become such a blessing in our lives. Now with the world getting closer to back to normal, we are ready to celebrate with our family and friends. Celebrate as safely as possible too.
