How we met

09/12/2012

Merrideth and I started dating our senior year of high school, which makes us high school sweethearts. As we began our relationship, we had to maneuver the complications of long distance dating. Merrideth attended Seton Hall University and I went to TCNJ. As, a couple, we made it work and would spend long hours on the train to see each other every other weekend. However, in my junior year of college I transferred to NJIT, which was perfect for us. Before Merrideth began her master's program, we took a 12 day back packing trip to Italy. This was our first international trip together. We had an amazing time and began a new tradition together, to collect ornaments from each place we travel to. Now we have a collection from all the wonderful places we have been together. During our experiences in high school, college, and traveling we have learned to always grow and love one another as the other embarks in new chapters in their life. Now after almost 9 years we are ready to begin the rest of our lives together and explore new adventure as Mr. and Mrs. Wasilewski.

Our Story

August 17th, 2019 NYC

The story of how I proposed to Merrideth is anything but normal. Merrideth and I booked a 2 night stay in NYC to celebrate important milestones in our lives. Merrideth had just acquired a new and better occupational therapy job. I was currently working as a mechanical engineer, but I had been recently accepted into a Masters program for engineering management. We spared no expense, and got a hotel room on a high floor that overlooked the beautiful Times Square. It was an amazing room equipped with a balcony that had great views of the city. On our first night we walked around the city for awhile, but eventually ended up at an amazing Italian restaurant. We finished off the late night by visiting the M&M's World, and ended up buying matching socks, matching coffee mugs, and over 1 pound of candy! We spent the next day visiting the Bronx Zoo and had an amazing time seeing the entire facility. After the zoo, we were sitting on the balcony overlooking the city and resting. We were talking about life and how lucky we are to have found someone that we are in love with. I sat there thinking how I could not imagine living with anyone but Merrideth. At the time, I did not have a ring to propose, but I knew that this moment was more perfect than anything I could have thought of. I got off the balcony, and grabbed the 1 pound bag of M&M's that we had purchased the night before. I got on one knee and told her that I know this is unconventional, but I could not wait any longer to be engaged to her. I asked her to marry me with a bag of candy, which is of course comical, but she happily accepted. We then celebrated by getting the VIP treatment at the hotel restaurant. The server gave us the best table in the restaurant with free dessert, and we ordered champagne. Overall, we had an extremely memorable weekend that I will never forget. P.S. we went the next weekend and Merr was able to pick out her own ring design so that the engagement could be official!
