How we met

September 2009

I (Merica) was sitting with (one of my bridesmaids) Lauren, in the cafeteria at FLCC, when I saw Tyler from across the room (the cafeteria...lol), Lauren saw him too. I needed to meet him. We didn't really make any friends yet at this point because it was the beginning of our first year after high school, so we needed to make friends anyway, right? We immediately walked over to the table full of lacrosse boys, and said, "Hey can we sit with you guys?" looking directly at Tyler, who had big headphones on and made zero eye contact with me. We all became super close that year, but Tyler knew I was crushing on him the entire year... Fast forward to about a year later when he called me to ask if I wanted to hang out with him that weekend, and the rest was history!

The proposal

December 8th, 2019

We were planning a trip to NYC to see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree for our first time - yes, we have been to NYC about 100 times since we've been together, but never to see the tree. We planned on meeting with his cousin & her husband, who are an amazing photography/video duo in Brooklyn, to take some photos in front of the tree. I was so excited to see them and see the tree and get coffee & breakfast in the city and walk around. We walked for a while from Bryant Park to Rockefeller Center and there it was, more beautiful (and actually much smaller) than I had ever imagined it. They were about to take some photos & she even made me take my gloves off (lol). Next thing I knew, Tyler was pulling away from me and turned & faced me, and pulled out a ring box & got down on one knee (I also got down because I thought I was going to pass out haha). I was (kind of still am) in complete shock. He asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, so of course I said yes (I actually don't remember speaking). I was (and still am) on cloud 9. Next stop we made was Barnes & Noble so I could buy a wedding planning book, then our favorite lunch - Five Guys... haha. Also, you better believe I got my glass of champagne that day to celebrate! :)
